On 14 June 2024, the Philippines Permanent Mission in New York presented to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) a partial submission containing information on the outer limits of a portion of its continental shelf extending beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines used to measure the breadth of the territorial sea. This submission is in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and pertains to the West Palawan Region (WPR). The submission coincided with the final day of the 34th session of the States Parties to the Law of the Sea (SPLOS), marking the 30th anniversary of UNCLOS's entry into force.
